Anxiety disorder in medical terms is explained as a condition that is characterised by feeling of worry, anxiety or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one’s daily activities. Anxiety disorders can even lead to panic attacks and various other conditions. Oxford dictionary mentions the meaning anxiety as a feeling of worry, nervousness or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. Anxiety is a kind of fear!

Some of us get anxious for everything, while some are anxious only about certain matters. We handle many situations with ease, yet there are few circumstances we do not handle well because of anxiety or stress. But how does anxiety take origin? How can we lead our life without anxiety?

Fear causes anxiety! When we fear, we get stressed and stress makes us anxious. Bible reminds that God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, love and sound mind. With the budding of any fear, we should realise it is not God’s will for us be fearful. Any sort of fear about life ignites when we lose trust in our maker. For many, this fear comes because they don’t know their creator yet.
Perfect love casteth out fear! We are created to have fellowship with the creator, to grow in Him and to reflect His image, to enter into an everlasting relationship with Him. Enter into a relationship with our maker and as we learn of His love upon us, we will develop an unbreakable bond with him. And nothing in this world can ever break it. Thus we will conquer the fear that cause unnecessary worries.

In the face of a challenge, we get anxious if we are trusting in our own abilities. When we trust in our Lord, every failures will become great lessons and every challenges will become our power boosters to bring His light to the world. Lack of understanding about the Lord can make us feel self confident. We end up believing that many achievements and successes in life was because of our hard work, dedication or integrity. While we may posses all these good qualities, we should never forget the power of the Lord that’s working in our life to fulfil His promises. He has promised us that His plans are not to harm us but to prosper us; another assurance was that He will be our provider; He has also promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. With His new mercies everyday, He leads us through.

Another core reason we get anxious is because of our sins. We err with knowledge and get worried about hiding it. It’s a long term struggle unless we repent and come back to the Lord. The beauty here is, our Lord forgives us and help us to get back up. To follow the creator’s instructions about life is highly important. Holy Spirit teaches us of what is right and what is wrong. Abiding in the maker is the only key to remain calm in times of rushing and roaring waves.

Life is challenging when it is looked upon with eyes of self confidence. It is easy to be fearful and get anxious about what is next! The insecure feeling and uncertainty in visible securities brings anxiety. But to those who trust in the Lord, they believe this: the Lord who gives colour to the flowers and continue to provide food for the birds, will provide enough and more for our daily needs. Toiling much to keep our lives secure brings much stress! Instead gain great faith in the Lord and we will be able to work with peace. With the struggle in pleasing men, our stress level increases! Instead, we should live every moment according to the plan of our Father above. Cast all your cares unto the lord and He will sustain thee.

Let us cling to the maker and never let traces of stress or anxiety to dig into your joyful life in Christ!
