ആറു പതിറ്റാണ്ടായി സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ഇഴയടുപ്പമുള്ള ബന്ധം. 60 വർഷത്തിലേറെയായി എനിക്ക് അപ്പച്ചനെ, പാസ്റ്റർ പി. വി. കുരുവിളയെ, അറിയാം. ശാരോൻ ഫെലോഷിപ്പ് ചർച്ചിന്റെ പാസ്റ്റർ, ബൈബിൾ പണ്ഡിതൻ, അധ്യാപകൻ, ചരിത്രകാരൻ, ഉപദേഷ്ടാവ് എന്നിങ്ങനെ നിരവധി ഗുണങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ ജീവിതം. എന്റെ പിതാവും മാതാവുമായും . (ശാരോൻ തോമാച്ചായൻ - പി.ജെ.തോമസ് & ഏലിയാമ്മ തോമസ് ) സുദൃഢമായ ഒരു ബന്ധം കുരുവിള അപ്പച്ചന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
അവസാനം വരെ തന്റെ വിളിയിൽ ഉറച്ചുനിന്ന ദൈവത്തിന്റെ വിശ്വസ്ത ദാസനായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.അസാധാരണമായ ഓർമ്മശക്തിയാൽ അനുഗ്രഹീതനായ അപ്പച്ചൻ തിരുവെഴുത്തുകളെ ഹൃദയത്തോട് ചേർത്തുവയ്ക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പ്രിയ പിതാവിന്റെ പഠിപ്പിക്കൽ വ്യക്തവും ആകർഷകവും ആഴത്തിൽ സമ്പന്നവുമായിരുന്നു, ചരിത്രപരമായ ഉൾക്കാഴ്ച, നർമ്മം, പ്രായോഗിക ദൃഷ്ടാന്തങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ബൈബിൾ സത്യങ്ങൾ വിദഗ്ധമായി കോർത്തിണക്കി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ശുശ്രൂഷയിലൂടെ, തിരുവെഴുത്ത് സജീവമാവുകയും തലമുറകളുടെ വിശ്വാസത്തെ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.
എന്റെ ആദ്യകാല പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഓർമ്മകളിൽ ഒന്ന് 1960-കളിൽ, തിരുവല്ലയിലെ ശാരോൻ ബൈബിൾ കോളേജിൽ അധ്യാപകനായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ച കാലത്താണ്. ആ സമയത്ത്, അദ്ദേഹം ഞങ്ങളുടെ കുടുംബത്തോടൊപ്പം നിരവധി മാസങ്ങൾ താമസിച്ചു. സ്നേഹത്തോടെ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളോടൊപ്പം സമയം ചെലവഴിച്ചു. ചെറുപ്പമായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, ബൈബിൾ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ ആഴവും ബൈബിൾ സംഭവങ്ങളെ ചരിത്രവുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അതുല്യമായ കഴിവും എന്നെ വളരെയധികം സ്വാധീനിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ക്ലാസുകൾ ആകർഷകവും അവിസ്മരണീയവും പരിവർത്തനാത്മകവുമായിരുന്നു.
അപ്പച്ചന്റെ ആജീവനാന്ത തീക്ഷ്ണത യുവാക്കളിൽ പകരുകകയും അവരെ ദൈവവചനത്തിന്റെ വിശ്വസ്ത പ്രസംഗകരാകാൻ ഒരുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുകയായിരുന്നു. ശാരോൺ ബൈബിൾ കോളേജിന്റെ രൂപീകരണ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ അദ്ദേഹം നൽകിയ സംഭാവന വിലമതിക്കാനാവാത്തതാണ്. വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളും അധ്യാപകരും അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കുകയും ബഹുമാനിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ആദ്യകാല യുവജന പരിപാടികൾ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിലും, ഇന്ന് കർത്താവിനെ സേവിക്കുന്ന എണ്ണമറ്റ യുവ നേതാക്കളെ വഴികാട്ടുന്നതിലും ഒരു പ്രധാന പങ്ക് വഹിച്ചു.
അമേരിക്കയിലേക്ക് താമസം മാറിയതിനുശേഷം, അപ്പച്ചനും കുടുംബവും അവരുടെ ക്രിസ്തീയ മൂല്യങ്ങളും സംസ്കാരവും പാരമ്പര്യങ്ങളും വിശ്വസ്തതയോടെ സംരക്ഷിച്ചു. രാജ്യത്തുടനീളമുള്ള നിരവധി ശാരോൻ ഫെലോഷിപ്പ് സഭൾക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം പയനിയർ ആയി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുകയും നിരവധി സഭകളിൽ ശുശ്രൂഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അവർ കുടുംബമായി, ജ്ഞാനം, വിശ്വസ്തത, വിനയം എന്നിവ കൈമുതലായ ജീവിതം നയിച്ചു, അമേരിക്കയിലെ ശാരോൻ പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തെ ശക്തിപ്പെടുത്തുകയും യു.എസിലും ഇന്ത്യയിലും കുടുംബങ്ങൾക്ക് അവർ ഒരു അനുഗ്രമാകുകയും ചെയ്തു.
അപ്പച്ചൻ ഒരു സമർപ്പിത കുടുംബനാഥനായിരുന്നു. എല്ലാ സമയങ്ങളിലും അമ്മച്ചി അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അരികിൽ വിശ്വസ്തതയോടെ നിന്നു. ഉദാരഹൃദയത്തിനുടമയായ ദൈവദാസന്റെയും കർത്തൃദാസിയുടയും കരങ്ങൾ ആവശ്യക്കാരന് മുൻപിൽ പിൻവലിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.
.അവരെ അറിയുകയും സ്നേഹിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത എല്ലാവരുംഅത് ആഴത്തിൽ അനുഭവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ഇരുവരും പ്രാർത്ഥനാ യോദ്ധാക്കൾ ആയിരുന്നു. ഏതാനും വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് അ മ്മച്ചിയുടെ വിയോഗം സംഭവിച്ചു.
ക്രിസ്തീയ മൂല്യങ്ങളിൽ അധിഷ്ഠിതമായ കുടുംബങ്ങളെ വളർത്തിയെടുക്കുന്നതിൽ അവരുടെ അവർ കാണിച്ച നല്ല മാതൃക എന്റെ ഭാര്യ സൂസനും ഞാനും പിൻപറ്റുന്നു. അതിന് ഇപ്പോഴും ഞങ്ങൾ ദൈവത്തോട് നന്ദിയുള്ളവരാണ്. ഞങ്ങളുടെ മകൾ ലിസാ അപ്പച്ചന്റെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ കൊച്ചുമകനായ ജസ്റ്റിനെ വിവാഹം കഴിക്കുന്നത് കാണാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞതിൽ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് വളരെ സന്തോഷമുണ്ട്. അവരുടെ എല്ലാ പേരക്കുട്ടികളും ക്രിസ്തീയ ശുശ്രൂഷയിൽ സജീവമായി കർത്താവിനെ സേവിക്കുന്നത് കാണുന്നത് എത്ര ആനന്ദകരമാണ്.
96 വയസ്സിലും അപ്പച്ചന്റെ വിശ്വസ്തതയ്ക്ക് ഒരിക്കലും ഇളക്കം തട്ടിയില്ല. വിസ്കോൺസിനിലെ കെനോഷയിലുള്ള ശാരോൻ സഭയിലെ എല്ലാ ശുശ്രൂഷകളിലും പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിലും അദ്ദേഹം പങ്കെടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു,അത് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അറിയാവുന്ന എല്ലാവർക്കും പ്രചോദനം നൽകി.
2026 ജനുവരി 18-ന്, അപ്പച്ചൻ ചർച്ചിൽ പോയി, ആരാധനയിൽ സംബന്ധിച്ച് സഭയിൽ ആശിർവാദവും പറഞ്ഞശേഷം വീട്ടിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങി.ആ വൈകുന്നേരം, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് നെഞ്ചുവേദന അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു, അത്യാഹിത വിഭാഗത്തിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുപോയി. സമാധാന ഹൃദയത്തോടെ ശാന്തമായി അദ്ദേഹം ഡോക്ടറോട് സംസാരിച്ചു. മണിക്കൂറുകൾക്കുള്ളിൽ - കുടുംബത്തിലെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടവർ ചുറ്റും നിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ തന്റെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഭാര്യയുടെ ജന്മദിനത്തിൽ തന്നെ - തന്റെ രക്ഷകനോടൊപ്പം ആയിരിക്കാൻ കർത്താവ് തന്റെ ഭക്തനെ നിത്യഗേഹത്തിലേക്ക് വിളിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മകൾ റേച്ചലിനും ഭർത്താവ്- കർത്താവിനായി വളരെ പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുന്ന സുവിശേഷകൻ ടൈറ്റസിനും അപ്പച്ചനെ ശുശ്രൂഷിക്കാനുള്ള പദവി ലഭിച്ചു. അവരത് എത്ര നന്നായി ചെയ്തു എന്നതിന് ഞങ്ങൾ സാക്ഷികളാണ്. അവരുടെ നാല് മക്കളായ ജെയിംസ്, ജസ്റ്റിൻ, ജോഷ്, ലിസ്, പന്ത്രണ്ട് പേരക്കുട്ടികൾ എന്നിവർ എല്ലാവരും പ്രിയ പിതാവിന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹീത ജീവിതം നേരിൽ കണ്ടവരാണ്.
ജീവിതത്തിലുടനീളം, അപ്പച്ചൻ എളിമയുള്ളവനും വിശ്വസ്തനുമായി തുടർന്നു.കൂടാതെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവിത സ്വാധീനം അദ്ദേഹം സ്പർശിച്ച നിരവധി ജീവിതങ്ങളിലൂടെ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു.
പാസ്റ്റർ പി. വി. കുരുവിളയുടെ ജീവിതത്തിനും സാക്ഷ്യത്തിനും ഞങ്ങൾ ദൈവത്തിന് നന്ദി പറയുന്നു. ഒരു യഥാർത്ഥ അനുഗ്രഹീത ജീവിതം.
ഞങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആഴത്തിൽ മിസ്സ് ചെയ്യും.
“കർത്താവിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടിയിൽ അവന്റെ വിശുദ്ധന്മാരുടെ മരണം വിലയേറിയതാണ്.”(സങ്കീ. 116:15).
Loving Memory of Late Pastor P. V. Kuruvilla (96).
(1929-2026)
I have known Appachen, Pastor P. V. Kuruvilla, for over sixty years. Many attributes define his remarkable life—pastor of Sharon Fellowship Church, Bible scholar, teacher, historian, mentor—but above all, he was a faithful servant of God who remained steadfast in his calling until the very end.
Blessed with an extraordinary memory, Appachen knew the Scriptures intimately. His teaching was clear, engaging, and deeply enriching, skillfully weaving biblical truth with historical insight, humor, and practical illustrations. Through his ministry, Scripture came alive and shaped the faith of generations.
Kuruvila Appachan had a strong relationship with my father and mother (Sharon Thomachayan - Pr.P.J. Thomas & Mrs.Aleyamma Thomas).
One of my earliest and fondest memories dates back to the 1960s, when Appachen served as a teacher at Sharon Bible College in Tiruvalla. During that time, he lived with our family A lovingand the students for several months. Though I was young, I was profoundly impacted by his depth of Biblical knowledge and his unique ability to connect Biblical events with history. His classes were engaging, memorable, and transformative.
Appachen’s lifelong passion was investing in young people and preparing them to be faithful preachers of God’s Word. His contribution to Sharon Bible College during its formative years was invaluable. Loved and respected by both students and faculty, he played a key role in shaping early youth programs and mentoring countless young leaders who continue to serve the Lord today.
After moving to the United States, Appachen and his family faithfully preserved their Christian values, culture, and traditions. He went on to pioneer several Sharon Fellowship churches across the country and ministered in many congregations. Together, they lived lives marked by wisdom, faithfulness, and humility, strengthening Indian churches in America and blessing families both in the U.S. and in India.
Appachen was a devoted family man. Ammachi stood faithfully by his side in every season—an earnest prayer warrior known for her joyful spirit, generous heart, and servant’s attitude. Her passing a few years ago was deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.
Susan and I remain deeply grateful for their godly example in raising families grounded in Christian values. We were especially blessed to see our daughter, Lisa, marry Justin, Appachen’s second grandson. It is a joy to witness all their grandchildren actively serving the Lord in Christian ministry.
Even as he approached his 96th year, Appachen’s faithfulness never wavered. He continued to attend and participate in every church service and activity at Sharon Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin, inspiring all who knew him.
On January 18, 2026, Appachen attended church, gave the benediction, returned home, and shared with family his phycal discomfortness.Later that evening, he experienced chest pain and was taken to the emergency room. With calm assurance, he spoke with the attending physician about his symptoms, his wishes, and his hopes. Within hours—surrounded by family and loved ones, and on the birthday of his beloved wife—he was peacefully called home to be with his Savior. His daughter Rachel and her husband, wonderful servant of God Evangelist Titus were privileged to serve to Appachen.We are witnesses to how well they did.Their four children, James, Justin, Josh, and Liz, and 12 grandchildren all experienced his blessed life and witnessed a glorious homegoing.
Throughout his life, Appachen remained humble, faithful, and loyal. His influence spans generations, and his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched locally and globally.
We thank God for the life and witness of Pastor P. V. Kuruvilla.
A truly blessed life.
We will miss him deeply.
