A Man Sent from God

Mark begins his Gospel with these wonderful words: “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” (Mark 1:1)

Because this good news was so important, God sent a man named John the Baptist. John lived a very simple life. He wore clothes made of camel’s hair and ate locusts and wild honey. Even though his life was simple, his purpose was very great.

John had a straightforward and powerful message. He boldly told the people to repent and turn away from their sins, because God’s kingdom was near. His work was to prepare the way for Jesus. John did not want people to look at him—he wanted everyone to look at Jesus and make their hearts ready for the Savior.

Today, this same good news is shared with us. The Gospel is not about what we can do for God. It is about what God has done for us through His Son, Jesus. It is not about us—it is all about Jesus.

The Apostle Paul said: “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” (Romans 1:16)

As we repent of our sins, the Gospel of Jesus has the power to change our lives. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. By believing in Him and sharing this good news with others, we, like John the Baptist, are preparing many hearts to know Jesus.

This is the heart of the Gospel. Would you like to be a person sent by God to share the Gospel message?

Stay blessed.
